India and World Bank have signed a loan agreement for Meghalaya Community- Led Landscapes Management Project (MCLLMP) on 16th April 2018 in New Delhi.
The Union Ministry of Finance has signed Loan Agreement with World Bank for IBRD loan of US $48 million.
Meghalaya is a natural resource state. It comprises of natural resources like land, water sources and forests which is a source of livelihood for a majority of the population in the state.
The MCLLMP project chiefly consists of 3 components as Strengthening Knowledge and Capacity for Natural Resource Management; Community-led landscape planning and implementation and Project Management and Governance.
The MCLLMP project main aim is to strengthen community-led landscapes management in selected landscapes in Meghalaya by 30th June 2023.
The MCLLMP project will help manage and control these depleting resources, by strengthening the communities and traditional institutions. It will also help in the restoration of degraded and highly degraded landscapes.
The MCLLMP project will enhance water for local communities and improve the soil productivity which will in turn increase incomes and reduce poverty. It will directly benefit to 1 lakh rural people.
