Senior IPS officer, Rajesh Ranjan has been appointed as the new Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on 10th April 2018.
Rajesh Ranjan has been appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) governed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rajesh Ranjan will serve as the chief of CISF, till 30th November 2020, i.e. the date of his retirement.
Rajesh Ranjan is a 1984 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Bihar cadre, currently serving as the Special Director General, Border Security Force (BSF) of India.
Rajesh Ranjan will take charge as the new DG in CISF, at any time this month, succeeding OP Singh vacant post, as he took over as Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Police on 22nd January 2018.
The CISF is a central armed police force under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs. It was initially established under CISF Act, 1968 to protect major PSUs. However, it was converted to armed force with a larger ambit under an amendment to the Act in 1983.
The CISF is tasked with providing security to various government installations including country & airports, metros etc.
The CISF also provides security to industrial ventures and establishments, VIPs and engages in disaster management amongst others. It also has Fire Wing to respond to fire emergencies/accidents, with force larger than 1,65,000 which is the largest security force in the world.
