Finance ministry makes Aadhar mandatory for all post office Deposits Public Provident Fund, National Service Certification Scheme, Kisan Vikash Patra

The Government has made biometric identification Aadhar mandatory for all post office Deposits Public Provident Fund, National Service Certification Scheme and Kisan Vikash Patra.

In September 2017 the Government extended the deadline for obtaining Aadhar for availing government schemes and subsidies by extended month to 31 December 2017.

According to the gazette notification issued by Finance ministry, Existing depositors, the one who has not provide Aadhar Number at the time of application for such deposits would have to submit their Aadhar number to the post office savings bank or deposited office concerned on or before 31 December 2017.

The government has insisted on providing Aadhar for bank deposits, obtaining mobile phone and several other utilities towed out benami deals and black money.

The extension would cover as many as 135 schemes including free cooking gas to poor women, kerosene and fertilizer subsidy, targeted public distribution system and MGNREGA.

The government had previously made quoting of Aadhaar necessary for availing government benefits and subsidies like those on cooking gas LPG.
