Assam Government has launched a new tourism policy named Tourism Policy of Assam (TPA 2017) on 19 October 2017.
Tourism Policy of Assam 2017 has launched with the aim if increasing tourist inflow in the state two to three folds within the next five years.
According to Himanta Biswa Sarma who is the Assam Tourism Minister, tourism shall be accorded industry status in the state.
All facilities and incentives applicable to industries shall be made available to tourism industry also said the Assam tourism minister while releasing the policy. The new policy will be effective starting January 2018 until December 2022.
The Tourism Policy of Assam was approved by the state cabinet on 17 October 2017
The policy paper is aimed at creating a policy framework to move tourism into the major economic sector of Assam, Increasing the inflow of tourism by at least two to three folds in the next five years.
The Policy’s main focus is to make Assam a filmmaking destination by offering a range of incentive to move producers to come and shoot in the state.
The Policy will encourage the private sector to pro-actively participate and invest in tourist place in the tourism sector.
A special incentive will be offered an additional 10 percent capital grand up to Rs 25 lakh for investment in the remote or potential tourist destination of Assam.
The Policy also offers a range of financial benefits for constructing approach roads and installing renewable energy sources at tourist units and according to 2014 data, 45, 00,000 domestic and 20,000 foreign tourists visited Assam.
