Google and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed an agreement on the occasion of Safer Internet Day (6th February 2018) in New Delhi.
The agreement was signed with an aim to incorporate a curriculum on “Digital Citizenship and Safety” in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) curriculum in schools.
The ‘Digital Citizenship and Safety’ curriculum has been developed by NCERT in association with Google, which will be utilised to educate and up-skill students from Class I to Class XII across 1.4 million schools in India.
The curriculum aims to teach and help young generation of India, in becoming good and responsible digital citizens through structured classroom modules on the social, ethical and legal aspects of Internet safety.
The entire curriculum is spread into four themes - Being smart, Being safe, Being a digital citizen and Being future ready.
The curriculum’s basic topics focus to make students aware of Internet Safety, while advanced topics like Privacy, Device Management, Intellectual Property (IP) and Reputation Management are included for Online Financial Literacy and Cyber Crime in order to shape youths as Digital Citizens.
