Google Doodle Honors Achievements Of pH Scale Founder Chemist SPL Sorensen With An Animated Game On 29th May 2018

Google’s Doodle today on 29th May 2018, celebrates the working achievements of famous Danish biochemist S.P.L Sorensen, who is the founder of pH scale system.

Google with its Doodle marks the achievements of S.P.L Sorensen with an animated game involving sorting acidic and alkaline substances,

Danish Biochemist, S.P.L Sorenson, full name ‘Soren Peder Lauritz Sorensen’ was born on 9th January 1868 in Havrebjerg, Denmark. He died on 12th February 1939 at an age of 71 years.

SPL Sorenson worked at the Carlsberg Laboratory in Copenhagen from the year 1901 to 1938.

SPL Sorenson while working founded new two methods for measuring acidity. The first method was based on electrodes, while the second involved comparing the colors of samples and a preselected set of indicators.

A pH scale is used to measure the acidity and alkalinity of a substance. The concept of pH values was first introduced in 1909 as a convenient way to express acidity.

Google Doodle pH Scale Game

Google in its doodle arranged a simple animated game, which shows you a food item or other substances, and you have to sort it according to its pH values.

Now a pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is and it goes from values 0-14. If the pH scale is less than 7, the substance is acidic, if it's more than 7 then the substance is alkaline.

A pH value of 7 means the substance is neutral. Generally, water has a pH value of 7 as it's neither acidic nor alkaline.

Google’s Doodle, viewers are presented with a tomato, egg, broccoli, lemon, a soapy solution, battery and you have to click on either arrow which will sort them on either side of the pH scale.

Every time players make correct guess will sort the substance and will also show the pH value of the said substance but if players are wrong, the laboratory scientist, modeled on SPL Sorensen, will wildly shake his head asking you to try again. After sorting the six substances, they all animate again and make the Google logo.
