Indian forces celebrate 19th December as the success of Operation Vijay in memory of liberation of Goa from Portuguese Army.
Portugal Army surrenders on 19th December 1961 unconditionally to Indian forces during the second day of Operation Vijay.
Operation Vijay was the result of the culmination of Satyagrah for Goa started in 1954. The Satyagrah became violent when Portuguese government and Portuguese Army tried to demolish peaceful agitations against the rule using force.
After the failure of the diplomatic channel to persuade Portal to give rights to Goan citizen Indian government broke all relations with Portal and launches Operation Vijay.
Operation Vijay success in Goa ended 450 years old Portuguese government rule in the state.
