Gmail brought a boom to electronic mail of the modern era of the web. Gmail marks its 14 years of launch on 1st April 2018.

Gmail was launched on Thursday, 1st April 2004 by Google. Earlier it was named as ‘Caribou’.

Gmail was launched with an idea that even emails can be intuitive, efficient, useful and sometimes fun. Its logo was designed a night before it was launched.

Gmail was first used to send its first mail with a content message of ‘QWERTYUIOP’.

Gmail was globally opened for public use on 7th February 2007.

According to the report released in 2017, Gmail has more than 1.2 billion user’s accounts.

In Gmail ‘dot’ doesn’t mean anything, an email can be sent without adding ‘dot’ in the recipient address.

Gmail till 2004 can be accessed to store 1 GB data but later on, it was exceeded to 13 GB in the year 2013.

Gmail can be used to send emails to Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail accounts.

Gmail has lakhs of accounts which are opened only once in a lifetime.

At present, Gmail is been accessed by more than 75% people on smartphones. Its app has been downloaded from Google Play Store for about 1.1 billion times.
