Internationally famous peace awards Gandhi Peace Prize also called International Gandhi Peace Prize award which is given by the government of India.

Gandhi Peace Prize Awards:

International Gandhi Peace Price Award named after Mahatma Gandhi. The Award is given away annually by the Indian Government as a tribute to the ideals espoused by Gandhi.

The Award was initiated on the 125th birth anniversary of Gandhi ji in 1995. The Gandhi Peace Prize award is given to individuals and institutions for their contributions towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods.

Gandhi Peace Prize award carries R. 1 Crore (10million) in cash, convertible in any currency in the world, a plaque and a citation.

A jury consisting of the Prime Minister of India, the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, the Chief Justice of India and two other eminent persons decides the awardee each year.

Gandhi Peace Prize Awards' winner

Julius Nyerere who was the first President of Tanzania, was the first recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize (1995.

AT Ariyaratne from Sri Lanka in 1996 Garhard Fischer from Germany in 1997, Ramakrishna Mission in 1998 and Baba Amte in 1999 from India.

Nelson Mandela from South Africa in 2000 and Grameen Bank from Bangladesh in 2000, John Hume Northern Ireland in 2001.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan from India in 2002, Vaclav Havel (Czech Republic) in 2003, Coretta Scott King (United State) in 2004.

Desmond Tutu from South Africa in 2005, Chandi Prasad Bhatt in 2013 and ISRO in 2014 from India.

Indira Gandhi Prize Award:

Indira Gandhi Prize Award is also known as Indira Gandhi Peace Prize or the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development.

Indira Gandhi Peace Prize award is the prestigious award accorded annually by Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

The Indira Gandhi Peace Prize Award is given to those individuals or organizations that have done appreciable efforts in promoting peace at international level.

Indira Gandhi Peace Prize award carries a cash award of 2.5 million Indian rupees and a citation.

The panel constituted by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust consists of prominent and international personalities including previous recipients.

The award consists of the monetary award of 25 lakh and a citation. The recipients are chosen from a pool of national and international nominees.

Some of its earlier recipients are Parliamentarian for Global Action, International Organization of Parliament in 1986, UNICEF, United Nations Children’s Fund, in 1989.

Rajiv Gandhi, former Prim nester of India in 1991, M S Swami Nathan in 1999, Kofi Annan in 2003, Angel Merkel in 2013.
