Today, India celebrates the 113th birth anniversary of Chandra Shekhar Azad on 23rd July 2019.
Chandra Shekhar Azad is popularly called as ‘Azad’ inspires much life as he got involved in freedom struggle at a very early age.
Chandra Shekhar Azad was born as Chandra Shekhar Tiwari on 23rd July 1906, in Bhambri village, Alirajpur district, now in Madhya Pradesh. He was just 15 years old when he involved in the Indian freedom struggle.
Chandra Shekhar Azad became extremely popular after Kakori Rail Dacoity in 1925 and assassination of policeman John Saunders in the year 1928.
Chandra Shekhar Azad was also a part of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement at a very early age when he was a school student.
Chandra Shekhar Azad and Shaheed Bhagat Singh came together after the death of Lala Lajpat Rai and carried many underground Independence activities.
Chandra Shekhar Azad died at Alfred Park in Allahabad, now Prayagraj, on 27 February 1931 as British Police had surrounded him in the park after Virbhadra Tiwari informed them of his presence there.
At present time, the park has been renamed to Chandrashekhar Azad Park to honor the incredible sacrifice of this legend.
The Colt pistol of Chandra Shekhar Azad is displayed at the Prayagraj Museum.
