In a bid to secure data, a new data privacy law called as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been implemented in the whole of Europe Union (EU) which comes into effect from 25th May 2018.
The data privacy law 'GDPR' comes with a new set of guidelines to govern how companies can access and use the personal data of consumers and how they’re to help keep them safe.
GDPR will be applied to all the organisations that handle European Union citizens data.
GDPR new law & rules will also provide consumers new rights, including rights to find out what data is being held on them, and to delete that information, unless a firm has a good reason to keep it.
GDPR will also ensure consumers with more opportunities to make a claim for damage caused by the misuse of your data.
GDPR new rules give the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) powers to fine firms up to €20 Million (£17.5 Million) or 4% of global annual turnover for serious breaches. Small companies USD 23.5 Million.
Social media giants such as Twitter, Facebook and Google among others have already changed their data privacy concerns for their consumers.
