The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently announced to make changes in its rules regarding the recognition of schools. According to these new rules, CBSE has limited its role in monitoring the quality of educational quality, while the responsibility of audit of infrastructure has been left to the states.
Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on 18th October 2018 that the CBSE's derivative bylaws have been completely changed. He said that this rule has been changed so that it is paossible to ensure speedy, transparent, hassle-free processes and board work smoothly.
Along with changes in sub-rules, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved 8,000 pending applications for recognition.
The applications were pending since 2007. Now the schools will have to submit only two documents to get recognition and the application will be settled in the same year, the year it has applied.
In order to present recognition and NOC under the RET Act, the State Education Administration verifies many certificates from local bodies, revenue, and cooperative departments. After getting the application, the CBSE re-examines it and thus the whole process becomes longer. Now, this process has been left to the states.
CBSE has also made changes in its role, limiting it to only educational quality monitoring. Also, the responsibility of audit of infrastructure has been given to the states.
The CBSE board will no longer look at aspects of which the state has been inspected. Now the inspection of schools by CBSE will be result-oriented and educational and quality-oriented.
