WHO: Soumya Swaminathan becomes Deputy Director General for Programmes (DDP)

 

 

Director General of India Council of Medicine Research (ICMR) Soumya Swaminathan appointed as Deputy Director General for Programmes (DDP) 

Director General of India Council of Medicine Research (ICMR) Soumya Swaminathan has been as a Deputy Director General of Programmes of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Soumya Swaminathan would be holding the second-highest position of the Global body and she would be working under the Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus who took over this July.

Previously, Soumya Swaminathan was the Director of the National Institute of the Research in Tuberculosis (Chennai).

According to the WHO Director-General, Soumya Swaminathan will be the Deputy Director General for Programmes (DDP) and Jane Ellison will be the Deputy Director General for corporate operations (DDC)

For over two years now, Soumya Swaminathan has served as the Director General of the ICMR, an apex body in India for Biomedical Research.
