Dilbagh Singh, a 1987-batch IPS officer from the state, took over as the new police chief at a simple ceremony. He continues to hold the charge of Director-General (Prisons).
Jammu and Kashmir Government on September 6, 2018, appointed Dilbagh Singh as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.
As per the government order, Director General (Prisons), Dilbagh Singh has been given additional charge of Director General of Police, till a regular arrangement is made. He will have a regular appointment only after his name is cleared by the UPSC.
• Dilbagh Singh is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1987 batch.
• Dilbagh Singh was appointed as the Director General (Prisons) in March 2018 after the escape of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Naved Jhatt while he was on a routine health check-up at a city hospital in February.
• During his tenure as Director General of Prisons, Singh streamlined many things including the removal of dangerous terrorists from Kashmir jails.
• Dilbagh Singh had earlier served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu.
