Delhi & NCR (National Capital Region) has introduced the availability of Bharat Stage Grade-6 (BS-6) complaint fuel, in form of both Petrol & Diesel from 1st April 2018 to control increased air pollution.
India’s vehicle emission standards are modeled on the Euro emission standards that define limits for harmful exhaust emissions. The emission standards are primarily focused on the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions.
In India, to measure the pollution of vehicle ‘Bharat Stage’ scales has been formed. At present India is using ‘BS-4’ Grade fuel (petrol & diesel) which produces high sulphur content at approx is 50 parts per million (ppm)
Therefore, in a bid to control increasing air pollution in Delhi/NCR ‘BS-6’ Grade standard fuel is introduced which has lower sulphur content amount of approx 10ppm.
The Euro BS-6 grade complaint fuel will be available across India by the year 2020.
The Euro BS-6 grade complaint fuel can be easily used in BS-4 & BS-5 complaint vehicle, in fact, it would be very effective as it contains lower sulfur content which burns less in running engine.
