The Defence and Research Organisation has successfully conducted to the test of Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from Indian Air Force Aircraft from Odisha on Friday.
The smart weapon has been developed by DRDO which has the capability to engage the targets over 100 kms.
The ensnared and release trials were tracked by the Radar and Telemetry ground stations at ITR during the entire duration of the flight.
The Smart class weapon has a weight of around 120 kg which can be used to destroy runaways, bunkers, aircraft hangers and other reinforced structures.
For the project the government had earlier sanctioned Rs.56.58 crore for SAAW in September 2013.
