Indian Para-athlete Deepa Malik was born on 30 September 1970 to a veteran Indian Infantry Colonel BK Nagpal family in Bhaiswal, Haryana.
Deepa Malik got married to a veteran cavalier Colonel Bikram Singh and is the mother of two adult daughters- Devika and Ambika and lives in New Delhi.
Deepa Malik suffered from a spinal tumor in the year 1999, which resulted in three surgeries and 183 stitches between her shoulder blades and letting her paralysed from the waist down.
Deepa Malik despite facing huge difficulties, mental and physical pain she did not stop in chasing and achieving her dreams and finally flourished as a para-athlete making India proud.
Deepa Malik is associated with Himalayan Motorsports Association (H.M.A.) and Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (F.M.S.C.I.).
Deepa Malik is a member of the working group in the formulation 12th five- year plan (2012–2017) on Sports and Physical Education as nominated by the Planning Commission HRD Division on a recommendation of the Sports Ministry.
Deepa Malik is a proud recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2012 for her achievements as a swimmer, as she has swum across the Yamuna River against the current and also as a biker covering a distance of over 3,000kms from Chennai to Delhi on a customised motorbike and scaled nine high altitude motorable passes in Ladakh in 9 days.
Deepa Malik has also been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017. Till date, she has won 58 national & 19 International medals across all disciplines excluding many more honors and records.
