This is a centrally sponsored scheme announced in 2014 under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Its main objective is incorporating diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and catering to the career aspirations of rural youth aged 15 and 35.
This program is training based & placement linked.It also supports some other social & economic program of the government such as
Digital India,Start-up India,Make-in-India,Smart cities,&Stand up India as a part of the skill India Campaign.
The DDU-GKY funds the youth belonging from rural areas,in pursuing a better life by focusing on their placement,career progression & placement abroad.
This scheme is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM)
DDU-GKY Works as
*The scheme funds private education & skill training experts to start modern & advanced type,well equipped training centres.
*The trainers of the training centres will provide training to the youth and provide computers/tablets,spoken english & other skills.
*After completion of the training ,the students are offered placement.
*Training is completely free.
*Meals are also provided according to residential & non-residential training centres.
Eligibility for Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY)
*Age :- 15years and 35years
*Age relaxation for women,SC/ST and for physically disabled people for upto 45 years.
Key-Points
The program is currently covering 27 states & 3 union territories with 2198 training centres in 1822 project.
Under the scheme, a total of 10.81 lakh candidates have been trained in 56 sectors & 600 trades and of which 6.92 lakh are placed.
