Chaudhary Charan Singh fifth Prime Minister of India, profile, career, Independent India

Chaudhary Charan Singh was the fifth Prime Minister of India who served from 28th July 1979 to 14th January 1980.

Charan Singh was of the thought that the right of ownership is important to the farmer in remaining a cultivator.

The political career of Chaudhary Charan Singh suffered to his opposition in Jawaharlal Nehru’s economic policy.

Chaudhary Charan Singh left Congress party in 1967 and formed his own party named as Bhartiya Kranti Dal

With the support of Raj Narain and Ram Manohar Lohia, Chaudhari Charan Singh became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1967 and later in 1970.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi jailed Chudhari Charan Singh in 1975.

Chaudhary Charan Singh also served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in the Janata Government.

Chaudhary Charan Singh later died on 29th May 1987.
