The Government of India proposes to bring amendment of Section 6 of Payment of Wages Act, 1936 to provide creating the wages in bank accounts of workers.
The Government clarifies to provide wages of the workers in bank accounts or cheques along with the existing provisions of payment in currency coins or currency notes.
The Amendment of Payment of Wages Act aims to facilitate the employers for being payment of wages using banking facilities in current modes of digital payment options.
The option of payment of wages in cash is still available with the employers but the first mode for payment should be through Digital Media.
The amendment of Payment of Wages act will also ensure that the minimum wages are paid and their social and security rights are protected.
