The Government of India is planning to soon launch a toll free number 1955 for taking a feedback from telecom companies regarding call drops.
Provisioning of toll free number will be mandatory for telecom operators and should be accessible for local and STD calling.
The 1955 number is for outbound calls to the subscribers and IVRS will have to present pre-defined caller line identification to the subscribers using a short code, 1955.
Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited has been assigned the duty for the configuration of this short code.
Telecom operators have been directed to not charge any integration, maintenance and operational fee from MTNL.
The industry is working on to address the issue of call drop and continuously working with the government for infrastructure and investment.
