Subhash Bhamre, Minister of State for Defence announces that subsequent to India’s joining with Missile Technology (MCTR), Russia and India have agreed to extend the range of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile beyond 300 kms.
BrahMos, jointly developed by India and Russia, is considered to be the only supersonic cruise missile in the world.
The increased range of BrahMos is to double the standoff engagement range to 600 kilometers for practically every platform that uses the cruise missile.
The BrahMos cruise missile project is produced by India-based BrahMos Aerospace, set up in 1998 and is a joint venture between India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia.
The decision was taken earlier during the summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Goa on the sidelines of BRICS Summit.
