Parliament amends Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014

 

 

Government provides 4% reservation to Disabled persons in government jobs and educational institution with latest amendment in Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill 2014

On Thursday, Parliament passes The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014 with 119 amendments moved by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot.

The Rajya Sabha expanded the list of disabilities from 7 to 21 and the quantum of reservation increased from three percent to four percent in public sector jobs.

The quota in higher education institutions increased from three percent to five percent

So far, jobs and places in educational institutions were reserved for 3 categories of disabilities-hearing, visually and orthopedically impaired and orthopedically impaired.

The government is to soon roll out web-based unique disability identification (UDID) card to bring authenticity of disabled certificates and eliminate the hassle of having to carry different certificates.
