Google Doodle celebrates 105th anniversary of first expedition to reach South Pole

The Roald Amundson’s expedition to the South Pole is also known as ‘the last of the Vikings’.

Roald Amundson and four others arrived South Pole on 14th December 1911 ahead of Mr. Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition.

The expedition of the South Pole consists of 19 people and 100 Greenland sled dogs which are the key to the success

The key to the success of expedition is the dogs along with the use of skis to cross treacherous terrain.

Roald Amundson’s expedition is honoured by Google Doodle depicting his crew taking a moment to bask in their glory as the Antarctic Wind rages outside their rent.

Roald Amundson had a gift of organising and planning, Amundson wrote on account of his race to South Pole ‘Victory awaits him who has everything in order’.
