Indonesia’s current president Joko Widodo has been elected again for the second term by winning 55.5% of the vote cast for him on 21st May 2019.
Joko Widodo and his Vice-Presidential running mate Ma'ruf Amin won the election by a 55.5 percent to 44.5 percent margin over his rival Prabowo Subianto, a retired general from the Indonesian Army and Sandiaga Uno.
Joko Widodo belongs to PDI-P, the political party whereas his rival Prabowo Subianto belongs to Gerindra.
Joko Widodo’s PDI-P finished first in the People’s Representative Council (DPR) election with 19.33%, followed by Prabowo’s Gerindra with 12.57%.
First time in the Indonesian election history, the president, the vice president, members of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), and members of local legislative bodies were elected on the same day with over 190 million eligible voters.
