The International Day of Families is celebrated every year on 15th of May across the world to promote awareness of issues relating to families and increase knowledge of social, economic and demographic progression that affects families which are the basic unit of society.
The International Day of Families-2019 theme is “Families and Climate Action: Focus on SDG13”.
SDG 13 target 13.3: Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
SDG 13 target 13.2: integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning
The International Day of Families-2019 will mark the importance the international community attaches to families and their role in development.
The International Day of Families was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1993 by adopting resolution A/RES/47/237 and reflects importance international community attaches to families. Every year, UN secretary-general makes to the particularly applicable motto (theme) attention.
