Scientists have found the reason why the human skin does not leak
The entire outer layer of the skin shreds out every two to four week but it never leaks.
This is due to the arrangement of shapes known as tetrakaidecahedrons which never leaves a gap.
The scientists are also conducting the study to know the process by which the skins switch on the mechanism to make a kind of a glue which binds the cells together and at the same time ensures that the skin maintains its integrity.
Tanaka from Imperial College of London investigated the various layers of the mammalian epidermis
There are two main barriers present in the two layers of epidermis in the skin of mammals.
The first barrier is that near the surface air-liquid interface barrier is formed in the outer layer of the skin known as stratum corneum.
The second barrier is formed by tight junctions, below the liquid-liquid interface.
