World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated every year on 28th April around the world to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated mainly by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as an awareness-raising campaign to raise awareness of safety in the workplace.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is intended to focus international attention on creating a safety and health culture can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work-2019 theme is a reflection on the work that has been done over the past century to improve safety at work, and looking forward to what may happen in future – taking into account changes to our world such as climate change and developments in technology.
The date 28th April also commemorates the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers, which has been organized worldwide by the trade union movement since 1996.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is being organized as the global awareness campaigns and ILO became involved in this campaign in 2003 upon request from the trade union movement.
Therefore, ILO observes the World Day on Safety and Health at Work on April 28 since 2003 for capitalizing its traditional strengths of social dialogue and tripartism.
