24th April: International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace 2019 Theme, Details, Aim, Significance

The United Nations (UN) on 24th April 2019, celebrated first ever official ‘International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace’.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has organized a one-day high-level plenary meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.

The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace was officially proclaimed to be observed every year on 24 April by the UN General Assembly on 12th December 2018, through resolution A/RES/73/127. 

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed the day while considering that preserving the values of multilateralism and international cooperation is fundamental to promote and support the three pillars of the UN - Peace, and Security, Development and Human Rights.

International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is a reaffirmation of the UN Charter and its principles of resolving disputes among countries through peaceful means.
