The International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance (IMAD) in Mine Action is celebrated every year on April 4 around the world to raise awareness about landmines and progress toward their eradication.
The International Day of Mine Awareness (IMAD) also marks the deadly threat that mines pose to civilians’ lives and nations’ development.
The International Day of Mine Awareness 2019, the theme is "United Nations Promotes SDGs-Safe Ground-Safe Home".
The International Day of Mine Awareness was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on 8 December 2005. It was first celebrated on 4th April 2006 by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).
The International Day of Mine Awareness calls for continued efforts by States, with the assistance of the United Nations and relevant organizations, to foster the establishment and development of national mine-action capacities in countries where mines and explosive remnants of war constitute a serious threat to the safety, health, and lives of the civilian population,
