Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27th March 2019, has announced that India has now become a space power by shooting down a live low earth orbit satellite from its anti-satellite missile (A-SAT) capability.
India is now the fourth nation in the world to achieve this feat and entering into an elite space power after the United States of America, Russia, and China.
PM Narendra Modi has also informed that India has successfully taken down a low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite at the height of 300 km within just 3 minutes.
This comes under India's 'Mission Shakti' which does not violate any international norms or laws of security. This A-SAT weapon aims to embolden India's national security and is only a step in ensuring peace.
PM Modi also said that Mission Shakti was not aimed at any country and is only a measure to ensure security.
