Susan Kiefel becomes First Woman Chief Justice Australia

 

 

First Woman judge of Supreme Court Queensland Susan Kiefel appointed as Chief Justice Australia

Susan Kiefel became the first woman as the post of Chief Justice in Australia’s highest ranking judge.

Susan will become the senior judge on the seven judge bench after the retirement of Chief Justice Robert French.

Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull described her as an inspiration and a reminder to the office bearers that an office secretary can also become the Chief Justice.

Kiefel-61 year old quit Government school and started learning secretarial practises at a technical college.

Kiefel has also done full time jobs while she was in high school and study law at night.

In 1993, Susan became the first woman judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland state.
