The Khelo India Youth Games which includes completions in 18 different disciplines kicked off from 9th January 2019, at Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, Maharashtra. This event will conclude on 20th January 2019.
Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) is a part Khelo India which is the revamped national programme for the development of sports in India.
Students from colleges and universities are participating in the event for the first time.
Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Youth affairs and sports Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore attended a virtual touch ceremony at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex.
More than 6000 Under–17 and Under-21 athletes from all over India are participating in the games.
There are 6 team sports in KIYG and agenda includes Kabaddi and Kho-Kho.
Earlier, the Khelo India Youth Games 2018 was held at Delhi.
Khelo India Youth games- previously called as Khelo India School Games, are held annually in January or February as the national level multidisciplinary grassroots games. The games are held in two categories- under-17 years school students and under-21 college students.
Kelo India Youth games are part of Khelo India programme, which was introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.
