M Nageswara Rao, the interim chief of Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) was re-appointed to the rank of an Additional Director with immediate effect by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier while hearing the petition regarding the feud between Verma and Asthana, the Supreme Court allowed M Nageswara Rao to act as interim chief of the CBI but asked him not to formulate any key policy decisions until it hears the petition.
M Nageswara Rao is a 1986-batch Indian Police Services officer from the Odisha cadre.
M Nageswara Rao was appointed the interim director of CBI after the government stepped in between CBI director Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana amid an ongoing feud between the two and sent both of them on leave.
