India and Maldives recently on 18th December signed 4 Key Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), followed by releasing a joint statement,
It was Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih first official state visit to India from 16-18 December 2018 that saw bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Four MoUs are as follows:
1. MoU for agreement on the Facilitation of Visa Arrangements. It was signed between Union External Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shahid Abdulla.
2. MoU on Cultural Cooperation. It was signed between the Cultural Ministry Secretary, Arun Goel and the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shahid Abdulla.
3. MoU for establishing Mutual Cooperation to improve the Ecosystem for Agribusiness. It was signed between Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of India to the Maldives and Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of Economic Development Maldives.
4. A Joint Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the field of Information & Communications Technology and Electronics. It was signed between Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of India to the Maldives and Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Maldives.
Apart, India and Maldives also agreed to work together to create institutional linkages and to establish a framework of cooperation in the following areas:
