Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the 25th Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 11th December 2018 for three years of the term.
Shaktikanta Das is a 1980 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu Cadre and a very prominent bureaucrat who served under both NDA and UPA governments and held various positions for both the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Shaktikanta Das served as economic affairs secretary from 2015 to 2017 and was key official in both big economic moves of the government viz. demonetisation and implementation of GST. also a member of the Fifteen Finance Commission of India and India’s Sherpa to the Group of 20 summits.
Shaktikanta Das assumed the position of revenue secretary in 2014. After assuming the power of Narendra Modi, he was the first big officer to be brought to the Finance Ministry. While in the finance ministry, he was involved in drafting India's Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, aimed at protecting small investors.
Shaktikanta Das also helped in spearheading the moves of implementing GST and Demonetisation. It is said, he is very close to PM Narendra Modi.
