The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development or International Volunteer Day (IVD) is observed on 5th December every year around the world in order to spread awareness about voluntary contributions.
The International Volunteer Day (IVD) gives volunteers a chance to work together on projects and campaigns promoting their contributions to economic and social development at local, national and international levels.
The International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2018 theme is "Volunteers Build Resilient Communities". The 2018 theme will focus on how volunteers can build resilient communities.
The International Volunteer Day (IVD) was first declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) through its resolution A/RES/40/212 of 17 December 1985.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is authorised to work & support and promote IVD celebrations around the world. It also contributes peace and development by advocating for the recognition of volunteers and working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming.
