According to the United States-based travel agency Expedia, Vacation Deprivation Report-2018, which was recently released on 22nd November 2018, stated that India is among the most vacation deprived nation in the world ranking 5th among the 19 surveyed countries.
Expedia.com is one of the world's largest full-service travel sites, helping millions of travelers per month easily plan and book travel.
Expedia first commissioned Vacation Deprivation in 2000 to examine the work-life balance of Americans. In 2005, Expedia began comparing behaviors across countries.
In 2018, Vacation Deprivation has grown to encompass 19 countries. 11,144 employed adults aged 18 and older were asked by Northstar about work-life balance in September 2018.
India ranked 5th in the table after Japan, Italy, Australia, New Zealand.
India is followed by United States and Malaysia.
As per data, 53 percent of Indians take fewer vacation days than they get.
35 per cent don’t take leave as work schedule does not allow for vacation.
68 percent of Indians have ended up canceling their vacation due to work.
In terms of occupations, workers in the food & beverages, health, and retail industries were found to be most vacation-deprived while those employed in the real estate sector were least deprived.
