India and Japan have signed a Loan Agreement of Rs. 1817 crores for construction of Turga Pumped Storage (I)’ Hydel Project. It was signed between Union Ministry of Finance, Government of India and Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Turga Hydel Project when completed, will contribute to Industrial Development and Living Standard Improvement in the West Bengal.
Turga Hydel Project main objective of is to leverage the capability to respond to the fluctuation in supply and demand of power. It also aims to improve the stability of power supply by constructing pumped storage facilities, thereby contributing to industrial development and improvement of the Living Standard of people in West Bengal.
India and Japan shared a long and bounded history of bilateral development cooperation since 1958. In the last few years, the economic cooperation between India and Japan has steadily progressed, which has further consolidated and strengthened Strategic and Global Partnership between them.
The Turga Pumped Storage Project on Turga Nala is a closed loop type Pumped Storage Project located in Purulia district of West Bengal, the pump storage hydel project is 1,200 MW solar power. It also comprises four Reversible Pump-Turbine units each of 250 MW Capacity installed in underground Power House.
