The World Savings Day or World Thrift Day is celebrated every year on 31st October to increase the public’s awareness of the importance of savings both for modern economies and for individuals alike.
On World Savings Day, main topics are aimed at the importance of savings in the global economy and how every depositor contributes to its development.
World Savings Day was established during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milano, Italy in 1924 with an aim to create awareness among people about the importance of saving their money in a bank.
In India due to the death of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 31st October 1984, this World Savings Day is celebrated on 30th October.
World Savings Day-2018, the theme is 'Decoding the financial education challenge'.
