The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has redesignated R N Ravi, Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee as new Deputy National Security Advisor (Internal Affairs) on 5th October 2018.
R N Ravi will be the 3rd deputy NSA to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval after former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief, Rajinder Khanna and serving diplomat Pankaj Saran.
R N Ravi is a 1976-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Kerala cadre. He is also the government’s interlocutor for ongoing talks with Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) and man shaping the Naga peace accord.
R N Ravi has played an important role in ensuring that insurgency groups from North East have come to talking table.
National Security Advisor (NSA) is the chief executive of National Security Council (NSC) and primary advisor to Prime Minister on national and international security and oversees strategic issues.
NSA heads intelligence agencies such as Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) and Intelligence Bureau (IB), rather than directly to Prime Minister.
NSA is a prominent and powerful office in the bureaucracy. NSA is assisted by a Deputy NSA.
NSA post was created in November 1998 by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government.
Brajesh Mishra was first to be appointed NSA of India.
