International Day of Sign Languages Celebrated on 23rd September 2018: Theme, Details, Aim, History

International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) is celebrated on 23rd September every year across the world with the aim to promote the rights of deaf people and ensure the preservation of sign languages and deaf culture.

International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) will be first celebrated on 23rd September 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf.

International Day of Sign Languages-2018, the theme is "With Sign Language, Everyone is Included"

International Day of Sign Languages was first declared by the United Nations in the 72nd United Nations General Assembly session held on 12th September 2017.

International Day of Sign Languages was chosen on 23rd September as on the same date World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) was established in the year 1951.

International Week of the Deaf (IWDeaf) is celebrated annually across the world during the next to last full week of September since 2009.

About World Federation of the Deaf (WFD)

The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) is an international non-governmental organization that acts as a peak body for national associations of Deaf people, with a focus on Deaf people who use sign language.

WFD aims to promote the Human Rights of Deaf people worldwide, by working jointly with the United Nations and several UN agencies like WHO and ILO
