HRD Ministry conferred Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017-2018: Details, Highlights
Union Ministry of Human Resource Department has conferred Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017-2018 awards on 18th September 2018 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar awarded the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017-18 awards as a part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign launched by PM Narendra Modi on September 15, 2018.
For the first time, the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar-2017-18 awards have been extended to private schools besides government and government-aided schools.
Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar award was launched as a follow up to the Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative launched in 2014.
Under Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative, a record number of 417796 toilets were constructed in 261400 schools, including 190887 girls’ toilets in one year up to 15th August 2018.
Under it, Schools were rated through a transparent mechanism on five broad parameters – Water, Toilet, Hand washing with Soap, Operations and Maintenance, and Behaviour Change and Capacity Building.
About Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (Award)
The Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar award was launched in 2016-17 by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry for Human Resource Development.
The Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar award was framed to honor the schools that have done exemplary work in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene.
The Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar award is conferred to ensure long-term sustainability and behavior change towards cleanliness. It also provides a benchmark and roadmap for schools to make further improveme
