Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October 2018 in Gujrat.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue called as the 'Statue of Unity', is currently under construction on Sadhubet island at Sardar Sarovar Dam near Kevadia Colony in Bharuch district, Gujarat.
The 'Statue of Unity' will be 182m tall, that is double the size of New York's Statue of Liberty (93 meters).
The 'Statue of Unity' main aim is to remind every individual of India's freedom struggle and will highlight Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's (Iron Man of Inda) visionary ideologies of unity, patriotism, inclusive growth and good governance.
The 'Statue of Unity' will symbolise India's unity and integrity and would inspire the future generations of India for years.
The foundation stone of the Statue of Unity was laid down by the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Ruppani on 31st October 2014 on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s 139th birth anniversary.
The 'Statue of Unity' construction work project was awarded to leading engineering company, Larsen and Toubro (L&T). It will be completed at an expense of Rs 1345 crore, a part of Rs 2979 crore total amount allocated for the project.
Also, a budget of Rs 235 crore is being spent on the construction of exhibition hall and convention center; Rs 83 crore is being spent on the bridge connecting the memorial to the main-lan, and Rs 657 crore rupees will be spent to maintain the structure for next 15 years.
