NASA to launch Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) on 12th December 2016 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida

This is the first Earth Science Small satellite constellation to improve hurricane intensity, track and storm surge forecasts.

CYGNSS aims to measure previously unknown details crucial to accurately understanding the formation and intensity of tropical cyclones and hurricanes.

The CYGNSS will in return provide more accurate weather forecasts of wind speeds and storm surges

This satellite will also use constellation of eight microsatellite observatories to measure the surface of roughness of the oceans of the World.

The scientists of this mission will the collected data to calculate the surface wind speeds to provide a better picture of storm strength and intensity.
