Indian Railways in order to ensure that rail passengers have an amusing journey will be stationing a ‘Train Captain’ in long route mail and express trains.
Now, If a passenger traveling in the train faces any problem related to food, cleanliness, working of AC/fans, availability of water in the toilets, he can directly approach an onboard ‘train captain’, who will be individually responsible for redressing the problems of the passengers.
The 'Train Captain' will have the overall responsibility of the train including the availability of water, cleanliness of coaches and toilets, proper working of electrical fittings such as fans, lights, mobile charging points among others.
The need for a train captain in trains was felt after it was found that the grievances of onboard passengers were not being addressed despite the existing helpline numbers and presence of police personnel.
The Train Captains will have a separate uniform and badge.
The Railway Board has directed all Zonal Railways to introduce the services of Train Captains on a priority basis to all premium trains to address issues that may arise during the journey.
