National Doctors' Day observed on 1st July in India Details, Aim, Purpose, History

The National Doctors' Day is observed on the first day of July (1st July) in India. 

The National Doctors' Day is a day celebrated to express gratitude and acknowledge the dedication and commitment & contribution of the physicians' or doctors' towards individual life and our society. 

The National Doctors' Day around the world, the date may vary from nation to nation depending on the event of commemoration used to mark the day. 

In India, the National Doctors' Day is celebrated to honor the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on the same date in 1962, at the age of 80 years.

Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was honored with the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on 4th February 1961.

On National Doctors' Day, people usually gift a card or red carnation to their family physicians and their spouses, and also flowers are placed on the graves of dead physicians.

The first National Doctor’s Day was observed on 30th March  1993 in Winder, Georgia. In India, Doctor’s Day was established by the Government of India in 1991 to be recognized and celebrated every year on 1st of July as National Doctors Day.
