The NITI Aayog has launched the first Delta Ranking (Incremental Progress) of the Aspirational Districts on 29th June 2018 in New Delhi. It was based upon self-reported data of districts between 31st March 2018 to 31st May 2018.
The self-reported data was received on five developmental areas that include Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Water Resources, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development, and Basic Infrastructure.
The Delta Ranking of Aspirational Districts was launched as a part of ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Delta Ranking of Aspirational Districts main aim is to create a sense of competition among the dynamic teams in all the districts.
The Districts began entering data from 1st April 2018, in the Champions of Change Dashboard and a total of 108 districts out of total 112 participated in this ranking.
As these districts face many challenges including legacy, weak resource base, a deficit of manpower, etc, the ranking is also a tool to identify sectors and indicator specific challenges so that ‘Team India’ hub, which is driving this programme, can take immediate corrective measure.
Most improved aspirational districts: Dahod (Gujarat, Rank 1st), West Sikkim district (Sikkim, Rank 2nd). Ramanathapuram district (Tamil Nadu, Rank 3rd) Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh, Rank 4th) and YSR Kadapa district (Andhra Pradesh, Rank 5th).
Least improved aspirational districts: Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir), Begusarai (Bihar), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Simdega (Jharkhand) and Khagaria( Bihar) were listed as first to fifth aspirational districts, respectively, in the least improved states.
