Haryana Village's Panchayat Passed 'No Toilet, No Bride' Resolution- Details, Aim, Purpose

Haryana village's Godikan panchayat has become the first panchayat in India to pass a resolution to marry off girls only to families that have a toilet in their house.

Inspired by Bollywood movie Toilet- Ek Prem Katha, the move, say panchayat members, is aimed to ensure safety and well-being of the womenfolk.

Posters and banners that say “Beti within biyahenge, jis ghar me shauchalaya payenge" (will marry off our daughters to households where we find a toilet), are believed to be put up soon.

Godikan panchayat has already been declared an Outdoor Defecation Free (ODF) panchayat.

Godikan panchayat's Sarpanch Dharampal who passed the resolution proclaimed that the move is aimed at ensuring the security of their daughters in addition to hygiene.

Haryana's Village women and especially young girls are very pleased with this resolution.
