The world’s first International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics was launched in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics is a joint venture of the Regional delegation of International Committee of Red Cross (ICCR) in India, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives and also Gujarat Forensic Science University.
The International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics plays a significant and essential role during natural and manmade calamities which takes place at regular intervals across the world over and a large number of people become victims of such calamities.
The International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics will use forensics for humanitarian services to aid humanitarian efforts during emergencies and natural disasters. It will assist in the dignified and proper management of dead bodies during disasters or emergencies and also help in their identification
The International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics will also conduct various academic and professional programmes, training and research and also provide technical expertise to support operations in the field of humanitarian forensics to authorities and agencies concerned.
Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GSFU) will run different courses both postgraduate and postgraduate diploma courses in humanitarian forensics. The centre will also help to combine local and international expertise to build capacities before tragedies hit people.
